Hey there. Welcome to my website.

Who am I? Well, my name is Brian, and I had my life ruined by punk rock and hardcore years and years ago, in the nicest way possible of course. I was a kid who drew a lot and liked music so I eventually learned how to play drums, self taught by the way and I drew a lot of primitive cartoons that I somehow was able to get printed in real magazines. In the mid eighties I was sort of a mini celebrity in the hardcore punk rock mail correspondence world. I drew a lot of stuff, wrote a lot of people, made a lot of friends, licked a lot of stamps and was made fun of a lot. I drew a lot of stuff for magazines of their day like FLIPSIDE, MAXIMUM ROCK AND ROLL, SUBURBAN VOICE, XXX and a billion more. I drew album covers and singles covers for a lot of different bands as well. No, I am not going to go into detail, because there was too much and some of it is of course sort of embaressing.

I have fairly recently done artwork for a variety of different magazines like LEFT OF THE DIAL, CHUNKLET, ARTCORE, COMMON CAUSE, THE HIT LIST as well as new album cover art for newer bands like TRIPLE THREAT. Two years ago, Matt Owens of Volume One was nice enough to put out MANCHILD; A CELEBRATION OF TWENTY YEARS OF DOOLES, a sturdy 120 page book comprising of my cartoons over the years. It is still available through me at this site and through AK Press. And recently Charles Cardello of Bifocal Media helped me release my brand new second book entitled MANCHILD 2: THE SECOND COMING, an even better and more focused book, also available through me. What the heck, you should just buy them both!

I’ve had the experience of playing drums (in the most non professional way possible) for over twenty years in various bands that most of you haven’t heard of, but there have been a few things along the way that might have caught someone’s eye, like being involved in POLVO (last album and tour), playing in bands featuring future stars like Mac Macaugahn (WWAX) and Ryan Adams (PATTY DUKE SYNDROME), was allowed to play with COC mainstays Mike Dean and Woody Weatherman in a rough but good project, SNAKE NATION as well as a seemingly non stop glut of local bands that you would only barely remember if you lived in the Triangle area of North Carolina. I currently play for the band DOUBLE NEGATIVE, a band that tips its hat to the eighties hardcore type stuff that we all grew up on. here is a link to hear some music: http://www.myspace.com/thedoublenegative .
